Through Sept. 8. The Portland Museum’s summer exhibit "Beyond Aprons: Portland Women and Their Community" is the brainchild of several Portland women. During a period of six months the group combed the museum’s collection for photographs and artifacts that illustrate the many different ways their "foremothers" contributed to the neighborhood’s history. The volunteers also wrote the narrative descriptions that accompany the clothing, dating from the mid-1800s, and tools used in their daily routines. The exhibit, funded by the Kentucky Foundation for Women, is not only a glimpse into the history of Portland, but into the lives of the ladies who shaped it. Admission is $5 and the museum is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. 2308 Portland Ave. 776-7678.
