It took just over five hours, but the Louisville Bats extended their winning streak to five games Friday night with a 4-3 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox in 13 innings. The start of the game was delayed an hour and seven minutes due to rain.

After Felix Perez doubled with one out in the 13th, Daryl Jones ripped a single into right field that scored Perez to give the Bats the decisive run of the game.

The Bats improved to 3-6 in extra-inning games and picked up their fifth last at-bat win of the season. The Bats improved to 9-11 in one run games.

The Bats opened up the scoring in the very first inning on an RBI single from Cody Puckett. They extended their lead to 2-0 on a solo home run from Kristopher Negron in the third.

Pawtucket battled back to take the lead with a three spot in the sixth. Jason Repko led the inning off with a single and immediately scored on Ryan Lavarnway’s double. Two batters later, Alex Hassan belted a two-run home run to give the Paw Sox the lead.

The lead didn’t last long, though, as Miguel Rojas connected for his first career Triple-A home run with two outs in the seventh to tie the game at three.

Pawtucket appeared to have the game won when, with the bases loaded, Bats reliever Nick Christiani let one fly that zipped past catcher Corky Miller. Jason Repko, who broke for home, was thrown out at the plate as Miller quickly fetched the ball and fired to Christiani for the out.

Donnie Joseph pitched scoreless 11th and 12th innings, including striking out the side in order in the 12th, to pick up his second win with the Bats. Kanekoa Texeira pitched a scoreless 13th to pick up his first save of the year.

The Bats and Red Sox continue their four game series Saturday. Sean Gallagher (6-4, 5.04 ERA) will take the mound for the Bats against the Sox’ Aaron Cook (3-0, 2.41 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
