In an attempt to bolster their already strong bullpen, the Cincinnati Reds have acquired veteran reliever Jonathan Broxton from the Kansas City Royals. In exchange, the Reds will send left hander Donnie Joseph and right hander J.C. Sulbaran.
Joseph, currently with the Louisville Bats, has been stellar with the Bats since being promoted from Double-A Pensacola June 9. In 18 games with the Bats, Joseph is 4-1 with five saves and a 2.86 ERA in 22 innings of work. Before his promotion, he was 4-2 with 13 saves and a 0.89 ERA in 30.1 innings with Pensacola.
Overall, the 24 year-old is 8-3 with 18 saves and a 1.72 ERA. In 52-1/3 innings pitched, he has struck out 68 and walked just 17. Joseph possesses big league stuff and will likely be with the Royals’ big league club before long.
