Two nights after setting a season high in runs, the Louisville Bats were at it again Monday night, this time setting a season high in hits with 19, en route to a 9-2 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
After the Yankees got single runs in each of the first two innings, the Bats exploded in the third and fourth innings. An RBI double from Paul Janish after Joey Gathright reached on an error got the Bats on the board. Janish would come around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Danny Dorn. Two batters later, Bill Rhinehart singled in Dioner Navarro and the next batter, Cody Puckett, doubled in Corky Miller to make the score 4-2.
The Bats weren’t done. After Janish doubled to lead off the inning, Mike Costanzo singled him home to make it 5-2. Two batters later, Dorn’s ground-rule double scored Costanzo and made it 6-2. After Miller flew out, the Bats got three straight RBI hits from Rhinehart, Puckett, and Felix Perez to extend the lead to 9-2.
Perez extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games and Corky Miller extended his hitting streak to five, also a season -high.
Sean Gallagher started and, after giving up the two early runs, was very good. Gallagher picked up the win going five innings giving up five hits, walking four and striking out four.
The Bats (23-49) continued to get terrific relief work from their bullpen. Bill Bray (1.1 innings), Nick Chrisiani (1.2 innings) and Jodan Smith (1 inning) each had scoreless outings for the Bats.
The teams meet for game two of their four game series Tuesday night. The Bats are scheduled to send Ryan Feierabend (0-1, 9.35 ERA) to the mound against Adam Warren (4-4, 4.12 ERA) of the Yankees. First pitch is set for 7:05.
