July 15. Galerie Hertz’s Billy Hertz could be referred to as the godfather of the East Market art scene. Hertz, who was the first to open a gallery on the street 15 years ago, is facing a new challenge these days. After undergoing surgery to remove a benign brain tumor, months of therapy lay ahead of him. His prognosis is good, but the gallery will close for an indefinite period on July 16. A closing sale will run from the 5th to the 15th, culminating in a party that starts at 4 p.m. on the 15th to thank patrons for their support over the years. An appearance by Hertz is expected. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.- 6 p.m., Wed.-Sat. 632 E. Market St. 584-3547.
