The Cabo Wabo Coat Party will be celebrating it’s 18th anniversary this year at the Mellwood Arts Center. The party, which benefits the Indian Summer Camp for kids with cancer will be held on Jan. 8, 2011.
According to recent press release for the event, doors will open to the public at 8 pm and will last ‘til 2 am. Beer and wine will be sold and entertainment will be provided by the rock cover band, 100% Poly.
Admission is a $10 donation (minimum) and guests are asked to bring a new or lightly used coat, which will be donated to St. Vincent DePaul.
This event is 21+.
The party originated in 1993 when Alan Lewis threw a party in his basement and asked his guests to bring a donation and coat for charity. Within a few years, attendance skyrocketed and Lewis decided it was time to make it an official organization.
“CABO WABO” was born as an acronym for “Charity and Benefiting Organization, We’re All Better Off.” Last year’s party drew more than 1,500 guests and is expected to have more this year.
100 percent of the proceeds from the party will benefit Indian Summer Camp, a local non-profit organization, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children with cancer through their annual summer camp programs. More than 100 children with cancer were served by Indian Summer Camp this year alone.
According to Indian Summer Camp executive director, Shelby Dehner, “we are very excited to kick off our 30th year of providing services to children with cancer and their families with the CABO WABO party.”
