    The annual Garvin Gate Blues Festival will take place this weekend on Oak St. between 4th and 6th St. This year's headliner's include, Super Chikan on Friday, Oct. 8 and Deitra Farr on Saturday Oct. 9.

    James "Super Chikan" Johnson was recently nominated for the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year award and Traditional Blues Artist of the Year award. His most recent album, Chikadelic, was awarded Traditional Blues Album of the Year at the 2010 Blues Music Awards.

    Other performers include, Stella-Vees (local), Moreland & Arbuckle (who recently opened for Johnny Lang and Buddy Guy), Cheryl Renee with Them Bones and the Java Men.

    The festival is free and will held on Oak St. between 4th St and 6th St. Music will begin at 6 pm on Friday and 3 pm on Saturday.
