On January 22, at 5:30 PM, the Kentucky Derby Festival will premier the official 2009 Kentucky Derby poster. Held at Mellwood Arts Center, it’s the public’s first chance to view the portal for the greatest horse race in the world!
The poster, titled “Beautiful Rampage series no.3” was designed by local artists (and twin sisters) Jeaneen Barnhart and Doreen Barnhart DeHart. Completed over a year ago, the piece was chosen by Derby Festival Officials last year as the official poster for the 135th "Run for the Roses". Jeaneen says about the work “This oil painting represents the power, spirit and winning desire of the horse through the use of brilliant and bold colors, spontaneous paint strokes, gestural expression and an impactful composition.”
Guests to this party, the first official KDF event of 2009, will also experience gourmet hors d’oeuvres by Amerigo Italian Restaurant, cocktails (including limited edition artist drink), a complimentary gift for the first 1,000 guests and a silent auction of uniquely framed art. A Student Art Contest artwork will be on display and official 2009 Derby Festival Merchandise will also be on hand.
And, as Jeaneen Barnhart tells us, guests will also find “Two very proud twin sisters!” as a meet-and-greet for the poster’s artists is also planned.
Tickets for the 29th Annual Poster Premier can be purchased in advance at www.kdf.org for $20 or can be purchased at the door for $25.
So, fight the winter blues and get your Derby celebration on early at the Mellwood Arts Center to show your Derby Love!
