However, now that McCarty, a former Kentucky hoop player and 10-year NBA veteran has joined Rick Pitino’s U of L staff, the move looks like it could be a stroke of genius.

Louisville assistant coach Marvin Menzies (left) is set to become head basketball coach at New Mexico State today, replacing former U of L assistant Reggie Theus, who has moved on to the NBA. Broadcast reports suggest former UK and NBA star Walter McCarty may replace Menzies at Louisville.
