With the rush of the holiday season, time is at a premium. Families are scheduled to the hilt and there is always something that needs doing. The Holiday House Tour gives the Louisville community an outlet to relax and enjoy time with one another while enjoying fabulous and detailed décor in the Victorianesque homes in Old Louisville. The event is an annual tradition for many in suburban Louisville and of course those in residence near Central Park.
Splendid treats by David Dominé, The Bluegrass Peasant; and soothing music, courtesy of Nancy Stagner, added to the ambiance provided by the period furnishings in the home as High Victorian tea took place in the ornate dining room and adjoining parlor. Guests enjoyed teas from England served in china fit for a queen.
Another incredible experience on the annual tour included a visit to the DuPont Mansion on 4th Street where the spirit of Alfred Victor DuPont as he recited the Ogden Nash classic, Jabez Dawes, The Boy Who Laughed at Santa Claus. Other homes on St. James Court and on surrounding streets offered a treat for the eyes with massive and detailed light displays visible from the street. Once indoors, guests saw decked walls in formal living rooms, parlors, and dinning rooms; an elegant breath of Christmas.
The Old Louisville Neighborhood Council supports this event as it is the largest fundraiser for the area and directly supports the museum in its mission to educate current generations about Louisville’s diverse history. Mark your calendars now for next year and feel free to take a stroll along St. James Court to see the outdoor displays.
