District 97 to perform at Headliners District 97 will be performing live at Headliners Music Hall. District 97 is the only Progressive Rock and Metal band in the world to feature an American Idol finalist and a Chicago Symphony Orchestra virtuoso cellist. The band was initially formed in the Fall of 2006 by drummer Jonathan Schang, keyboardist Rob Clearfield, bassist Patrick Mulcahy and guitarist Sam Krahn. The foursome from Chicago soon began creating a captivating blend of Progressive Rock, Metal, Classical and Jazz reminiscent of Planet X and other no-holds barred Instrumental Rock groups. YPAS to perform 'The Wedding Singer' Youth Performing Arts School announces "The Wedding Singer" is coming to the YPAS main stage. The Wedding Singer, it's 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party, until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. The only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. With a brand new score that pays loving homage to the pop songs of the 1980's, The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room. Nov. 11-19 The Flu Season by Will Eno The University of Louisville Department of Theatre Arts will perform “The Flu Season,” a dark comedy and love story by Will Eno set in a psychiatric retreat center where the lunatic doctor and nurse make their two patients seem normal. The play will be performed Nov. 16-19 at 8 p.m. nightly plus 3 p.m. matinees Nov. 19 and 20. All performances are at the Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd St. Directed by Jim Tompkins, associate professor of theatre arts, the 2004 Oppenheimer Award winning play is an unpredictable, part tragedy, part laugh-out-loud comedy. The play follows two love stories from beginning to end. Throughout the play, the audience gets a self-reflective commentary delivered by the characters of “Prologue” and “Epilogue,” who watch the action from the outside. “Not so much a play-within-a-play as a play-about-the-state-of-being-a-play, ‘The Flu Season’ will bring lots of surprises to the audience as it is rewritten while they watch,” Tompkins said. One of the surprises will be the appearance of a well-known local TV news anchor in the production. Show tickets are $12 for the general public, $10 for UofL faculty and staff, and $8 for students and senior citizens.
