Lebowski Fest is a celebration of all things related to the 1998 Coen brothers cult comedy, "The Big Lebowski." Fans of the film (aka "Achievers") come from far and wide to drink white Russians, throw some rocks and party with an array of Dudes, Walters and Maudes (not to mention a nihilist or two). It's a two-day party that typically opens with live performances and screening of the film the first night and concludes with a raucous bowling party the following night. July 15–17 Bastille Day Weekend Wine Dinner Come join us at the CastlePost for a gourmet 5 course dinner prepared by the Castle's executive chef and other local chefs in honor of Bastille Day. The French-inspired menu will include wine pairings from Vanguard Wines in partnership with Red Dot Wine and Spirits. Sparkling Wine reception begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7:30 p.m. Price includes five- course dinner, five wine pairings, champagne reception, tax and gratuity. July 15, 6:30 p.m.
Join Louisville Water Company for a free, guided tour of the original Water Works. Step inside the Water Tower, visit the original Pumping Station for a beautiful view of the Ohio River and see one of the massive steam engines used in the early 1900s. Your tour guide will share interesting facts about Louisville Water and explain the innovation behind the product. Tour the Tower also includes activities for children and a gift shop. July 16, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Derby City Comic Con Gone are the days of closet comic book fans. From big summer blockbusters such as “Thor” and “Green Lantern” to small screen sensations like “The Walking Dead,” which set basic cable rating records, the comic book culture proves to be making the move to mainstream in 2011. In addition to comic book and collectible dealers, Derby City Comic Con will feature some of the best artists, writers and publishers in the comic book business. Special Guests currently include Louisville native Jay Leisten (Marvel Comics), Kentucky native and “The Walking Dead” artist Tony Moore, New York Times best-selling author Marjorie Liu (Marvel Comics), Bill Nichols (Comics Mentor) and the Louisville Cartoonist Society. In 1900 Sweden, middle-aged Fredrik Egerman brings his 18 year-old bride Anne to a play starring his former mistress, Desiree Armfeldt. Soon Frederik and Desiree resume their romance, incurring the wrath of her current lover, a pompous Count. The situation culminates in a weekend at Desiree's mother's country estate.
