Final Days for Impressionist Landscapes: Monet to Sargent Join us for the closing weekend of Impressionist Landscapes: Monet to Sargent before it leaves Louisville! Enjoy e first look at Caravaggio's masterpiece The Fortune Teller, extended hours, tasty treats from local eateries, and more! This exquisite exhibition of over 70 luminous paintings includes many of the finest examples of mid-nineteenth through early twentieth century French and American landscapes from the Brooklyn Museum and Kentucky collections. French Impressionists painted highly elaborate “impressions”, the seemingly spontaneous, rapidly executed landscapes and cityscapes that prompted the name of their movement. This exhibition offers an in depth look at landscape painting as practiced by such leading French artists as Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet and their acclaimed American peers including Frederick Childe Hassam and John Singer Sargent. May 20–22, 2011 "Chasing Ophelia" @ The Bard's Town Chasing Ophelia is a new play by Doug Schutte, opening at The Bard's Town Theatre (at The Bard's Town, 1801 Bardstown Rd). The production is directed by Scot Atkinson, and stars Ryan Watson, Beth Tantanella, Nadeem Zaman, Jason Cooper, and Tad Timberlake. Developed by Schutte while working as a Treadwell Fellow at Shakespeare's Globe in London, Chasing Ophelia is a fast-paced comedy that both pays homage to--and pokes fun at--the poetic genius of William Shakespeare as it charts the course of newly-formed character Ned Mark. Chasing Ophelia was a National Arts Club New Play Award Semi-Finalist in 2010, and makes its premiere at The Bard’s Town Theatre. Attendees should bring their own mat or towel and water and arrive early to ensure a spot because space is limited. Cabaret Life Drawing is an evening of provocative inspiration hosted by the 21c Museum. It presents an array of burlesque starlets, fetish models, magicians, hula hoop artists and elaborately costumed showgirls whose performance and poses provide the basis for guests to sketch in a series of individual pencil and charcoal drawings. Throughout the evening, performers create and hold a series of poses ranging from 30 seconds to 15 minutes, allowing guests time to capture a quick sketch of each. Focusing on contrapposto and chiaroscuro, instructors help guests explore the weight shift of the model in the hips, shoulders, and head, as well as the distribution of light and shade for general dramatic effect. Attendees should bring their own drawing supplies and arrive early to ensure a spot because space is limited. Please bring exact change for class fees.
