Come see "The Big Uneasy"-- a documentary by Harry Shearer, voice behind many of "The Simpon's" characters. He will be making a special appearance on 5/16!

The film takes an in-depth look at what really happened during Hurricane Katrina, examines what happened afterwards, and why we are at risk for it happening again. In short, the film uncovers the real disaster of Hurricane Katrina-- which was that the tragic floods creating widespread damage were caused by manmade errors in engineering and judgment. The film interviews subjects from locals that survived the disaster, experts in the field of engineering, to a courageous whistle blower from the Army Corps of Engineers.

At the very least, it is an entertaining piece with appearances from John Goodman, and narrated by Brad Pitt, Jennifer Coolidge, Wendell Pierce, and Will Lyman. At the very best, it is a compelling and eye opening look at the dangers of poor engineering and leadership, and how the same mistakes are being made today in other cities in the United States.

The Pirates of Penzance (in Outer Space!)

Think Gilbert & Sullivan meeting Luke Skywalker

Contemplate a major general whose costume is reminiscent of Marvin Martian, complete with broom-topped Spartan helmet, red union suit and high topped sneakers.

Landing on the Planet of Penzance, space pirates now sport light sabers and ray guns instead of the swords with which W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan equipped them when the operetta premiered in 1879.   The British bobbies are now a line of tap-dancing, high-kicking policegirls.

However, one thing that hasn’t changed are the catchy, clever songs.  The Pirate King will still sing “I Am a Pirate King” and the Major General will of course sing and dance his way through “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General."    The policegirls and swashbuckling pirates will present “With Cat-Like Tread” and Mabel will croon her trademark song, “Poor Wandering One” in greeting Frederic to the planet.
