    Fillies Derby Ball

    More than 500 people will gather for the 53rd annual Fillies Derby Ball presented by LG&E on Friday, April 15, at the Galt House East Hotel. The Fillies, Inc., a volunteer organization that works closely with the Kentucky Derby Festival, are hosts of this formal event, which is themed “Celebrate Kentucky.” The Derby Festival Queen will be chosen by a spin of the wheel, and the Royal Court established with the four remaining Princesses, two Handmaidens, two Pages to the Court and three newly knighted outstanding citizens of the community.

    The event begins at 7:00 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. The Queen’s Coronation will take place at approximately 9:15 p.m. in the Galt House East Grand Ballroom.

    New this year, “The Paddock” area will open at 9:30 p.m. for after-dinner socializing. Tickets to “The Paddock” cost $70 and include appetizers, dessert and dancing. Proceeds from the event benefit the Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation.

    Free Demo Itsy Bitsy Yoga @ Shine Studio

    At Shine Studio, located off Market Street (the little green building behind the green building), next week your budding yogis can practice family yoga for FREE! According to a press release, "To help foster younger yogis, Maria Whitley, owner of Shine, is offering Baby Yoga (2 months-1year), Itsy Bitsy Yoga (1-2 year-olds), and Pre-School Yoga (3-4), and Yoga Kids (4-9 year olds)."

    The free demos are as follows:

    Thunder Over Louisville

    Thunder Over Louisville is not only the official opening ceremonies for the two fun-filled weeks of the Kentucky Derby Festival, it is also the nation's largest annual fireworks show. Rated as one of the top 100 events in North America, the Derby Festival's Opening Ceremonies is truly a sight to behold. And each year, more than 500,000 eager thrill-seekers do just that. The Thunder Air Show dazzles the crowd with more than 100 planes, aerobatics teams, daring sky diving teams and breathtaking stunts. And the amazing technology of the United States Air Force, Navy, Army and Marines are always crowd favorites. The assortment of military aircraft and demo teams in the sky and in the water make the Louisville waterfront come to life.

    Louisville Historic Tours Introduces New Full Moon Ghost Tours

    Louisville Historic Tours is pleased to announce their new Full Moon Ghost Tours based on author David Dominé’s popular book series. Starting on Sunday, April 17, these monthly tours will feature beautiful architecture and spooky stories under the light of the full moon. Tours will also be conducted the night before and after the full moon. Participants will be transported to each location by bus. The tours depart from the Visitors Center at 218 W. Oak St. in historic Old Louisville at 9 p.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes. The cost is $25 per person and includes entrance to several reportedly haunted homes, a surprise visit from a neighborhood haunt and a sweet treat.
