Ordinary People, Extraordinary CourageOrdinary People, Extraordinary Courage: Men and Women of the Underground Railroad draws the national phenomenon of the Underground Railroad into sharp focus by revealing the contributions of ordinary people, both free and enslaved, whose courageous acts on both sides of the Ohio River helped overthrow the institution of slavery. For two and a half centuries, slavery was a blight on our nation’s psyche. Through it all, more and more ordinary people acted in the face of human tragedy—and changed America forever. A staff member will introduce the program, guide the group through the DVD presentation, and answer questions afterwards. The Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) will help you find a lifelong friend and a love that will last forever with a great offer – the chance to pick your price! Come bear witness to one of the most talented singer/songwriters in town...Alanna Fugate at The Bard's Town! Join me each Sunday morning to hike a different trail throughout Kentucky. Everyone is encouraged to participate in at least one hike, for several reasons: Each Sunday hike will vary in mileage, but for every mile we hike local businesses will agree to donate money to Haiti's recovery. To show our thanks they can advertise in the weekly pamphlets about each hike. The organization through which we give the money to Haiti is not decided yet. I'm considering The American Red Cross or The Salvation Army. I'm taking suggestions of other organizations as well. Some places we will hit: I'm hoping regular hikers will offer trail suggestions as well. The weekly hike will leave from Louisville and never extend later than 5 pm and will vary in time and length each week. There may be a $3-$5 cost each week toward gas costs for drivers. Not a big deal if you can't pay you'll be covered, but if you can that's great! NOTE: IF YOU'RE INTERESTED JOIN THE FACEBOOK FAN PAGE. FIRST HIKE IS SCHEDULED ON FEB. 14 PENDING EVERYTHING FALLS INTO PLACE! (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hiking-4Haiti/280313489213?ref=ts&v=info#/...) |
