    Description:

    The Jazz
    Ambassadors is the United States Army’s premier touring jazz orchestra
    and one of the finest jazz ensembles in the world. This 19-member big
    band, formed in 1969, continues to
    receive great acclaim both at home and abroad performing America’s
    original art form, jazz. The band has performed in all fifty states,
    Canada, Mexico, Japan, India, and across Europe.

    Concerts by the Jazz Ambassadors are designed to entertain all types of
    audiences. Many of the Jazz Ambassadors’ members arrange and compose
    specifically for the ensemble, highlighting
    the group’s creative talent and gifted soloists. Their diverse
    repertoire includes big band swing, Latin, contemporary jazz,
    standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, and patriotic selections. The
    United States Congress has proclaimed jazz “a national treasure.” The
    Jazz Ambassadors proudly presents this uniquely American music
    throughout the United States and the world.

    Legendary favorites The Ohio Players will headline Saturday night with their spare, supple groove and bass-heavy finger-poppin’ funk.  Greyboy Allstars, an acid jazz band that focuses more on jazz than groove-oriented dance music, and the minimalist grooves and reimagined electro of Lyrics Born complete Saturday’s lineup.


    Families will enjoy the Catfish Louie Kids Area again with plenty of quality activities for children, including kids bands, Radio Disney personalities and games, free caricature portraits, arts and crafts, and inflatable games such as the moon bounce and super slide.  The Science Center will have a booth both days; Thursday’s theme is country music, with activities that will help kids learn about the science of sound by investigating country music and sounds from around the world.  On Friday, kids will investigate the science of Independence Day, with activities focused on color, flight and fireworks.

    Kicking off the Louisville Orchestra's new Summer Classics Series; the
    special Independence Day Celebration on July 4 at the RiverStage on the
    Ohio River in Jeffersonville begins at 8pm and will be led by associate
    conductor Jason Weinberger, featuring Sousa Marches and other patriotic
    favorites. The outdoor venue in Indiana offers a great view for Fourth
    of July fireworks from Waterfront Park following the concert.

    In
    conjunction with the nation-wide celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s
    Bicentennial, this exhibition will take you on Louisville artist Ed
    Hamilton’s artistic journey to create the Louisville Waterfront Park
    Lincoln Memorial. The memorial features a young Abraham Lincoln reading
    a book. The exhibition will features early clay sculptures of the
    piece, plaster models, drawings, and the 12-foot final models of the
    Lincoln sculpture, as well as early sketches of the panels of
    bas-relief sculptures depicting scenes of slavery and Lincoln’s
    extraordinary life. Free for All!
