    With Derby Week now in full-swing and the real work week drawing to a close for many, Louisville.com offers a few recommended events for Wednesday and Thursday.

    WEDNESDAY

    Louisville Magazine Launch Party

    Celebrate the launch of Louisville Magazine's May issue with drink specials, half-priced bottles of wine and free appetizers at 60 west bistro in St. Matthew's. You will have a chance to kick off your Derby Week winnings by scoring week-long tickets for two to the Senior PGA Championship at Vahalla, along with two tickets to Abbey Road on the River!

    Four Roses Bourbon Social at the Silks

    Originally planned as a post-Steamboat Race event, this bourbon social will feature hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and a chance to purchase a bottle of the 2011 Great Steamboat Race bourbon.

    Although the Great Steamboat Race has been postponed, it's still full steam ahead for an after-party originally planned for the evening of the race. Four Roses Bourbon has extended the hours of its "Social at the Silks" event, now starting earlier and running 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4 at Jockey Silks Bourbon Bar at the Galt House West.  The event will include hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

    “Social at the Silks” will provide guests the opportunity to meet Four Roses Master Distiller Jim Rutledge and purchase a bottle of the 2011 Great Steamboat Race bourbon while supplies last.

    THURSDAY

    Derby Festival Republic Bank Pegasus Parade

    The parade, first held in 1956, is the Derby Festival's oldest and founding event. The 56th parade promises to be a spectacle of colorful floats, marching bands, giant inflatables, equestrians and celebrities parading down Broadway beginning at 5:00 p.m.

    Taste of Derby

    Kick off your Kentucky Derby weekend in style at the second annual Taste of Derby, a celebration of cuisine, racing and style where you will mingle with horse racing celebrities and experience an evening of exquisite cuisine from popular horse racing destinations across the country as nationally renowned chefs from these cities serve samples of their signature dishes paired with delectable wines!  Live entertainment will top off the extraordinary evening and partial proceeds will benefit hunger relief organizations. The event starts with red carpet entry at the Mellwood Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. and runs until they close the open bar at 11:00 p..m.
