Windows and Doors of Umbria and Other Selected Works of Art opening reception at Primo Oils and Vinegars The opening reception of oils, watercolors, and pastels by artist Margaret Bromley features the Windows and Doors of Umbria. Bromley has studied with Watercolor magazine’s Jerry Stitt and Nancy Neville and studied at a two-week class in Umbria, Italy. She has also taken classes from Schrodt Art Studio in Louisville and from the staff of Preston Art Center. June 7, 5 p.m. Flyover Film Festival As Louisville Film Society’s signature event, the Flyover Film Festival brings together fascinating films, filmmakers, and film lovers for four days of screenings, conversations, and fun. Flyover provides a thought-provoking platform for audiences to meet and talk with film professionals, including past attendees like actors Jennifer Lawrence, William Mapother, Jess Weixler, and director Allison Anders. This year the work of filmmakers Martha Stephens, the Zellner Brothers, and others will be highlighted. From narrative film and documentaries to experimental features, Flyover has a film for everyone. June 7–10 Red Hot Chili Peppers at the KFC Yum! Louisville's Greek Festival at the Belvedere The very best in authentic Greek food and live entertainment. There'll be fun activities for kids, as well as Greek beer and wine. June 8-10 Glen Campbell at the Louisville Palace Country music singer and host of The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on CBS, Glen Campbell, is on his final tour. June 8, 8 p.m. 'Futura,' a play by Jordan Harrison, at Actors Theater Imagine that handwritten note you keep in a drawer, that ink smudge on the meat of your palm, the volumes of meaning in the curl at the end of your signature—all gone. Imagine it’s about to happen. Imagine it’s about to get worse. A dangerous lecture on typography turns deadly in a not-so-distant future where the page has been absorbed by the cloud and the author has lost all authority. Words quickly become action in this dystopian thriller from the author of Kid Simple and Maple and Vine. Will one scholar’s romance with the written word ignite the revolution or snuff it out? Cabo Wabo Summer Party at Bowman Field Thumper and the Plaid Rabbits will perform. Cabo Wabo was founded as a fundraising organization to benefit local charities through our summer and winter events and whenever a cause or need will arise. Its mission is to provide quality entertainment in a festive atmosphere (at least twice a year) that will in turn provide monetary resources for the beneficiary of that event. June 9, 8 p.m. The Flea Off Market in NuLu This initiative is the latest addition to Louisville’s growing repurpose and buy local movements. It is designed to provide opportunity to those who may have marketable items but no budget for shop space, alongside local independent businesses. It also offers the members of our Louisville community an opportunity to come together, mix and mingle, buy, sell, and trade – all in a unique and festive atmosphere with local cuisine and beverages, live music, and entertainment for the whole family. June 9, 12-6 p.m. 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist' at Alley Theater Terrorism. Police brutality. Political abuse of power. Big red noses. Nobel Prize laureate Dario Fo’s modern masterpiece of satire probes the mysterious death of an anarchist who falls from a window while being interrogated by officials. With dangerous wit and absurd physical comedy, Dario Fo explores just what a democracy can justify during times of terror. Through June 9
Fifth Annual Louisville Festival of the Arts at the Summit The Summit, located just east of downtown Louisville, brings culture and fine art to the art lovers of its community. You'll have the opportunity to meet America's finest artisans and crafters and peruse their work. Purchase their handcrafted jewelry, pottery, sculptures, photography, and much more. Bring the family down to view the great art work, dine at one of the many restaurants, and peruse the many shops and boutiques. June 9-10 Roger Waters at the KFC Yum! Center Roger Waters was a primary creative force in Pink Floyd from 1965 to 1983. He first met Syd Barrett, who would become the band's lead singer and guitarist, during his school days when both attended a Saturday art class. He moved to London to study architecture at Regent Street Polytechnic and there formed a band with drummer Nick Mason and keyboardist Rick Wright; he played bass and sang. Barrett joined them, forming Pink Floyd. June 10 Shawn and Marlon Wayans at The Improv You've seen these brothers in hit movies like White Chicks and Scary Movie 1 and Scary Movie 2, as well as the classic TV show In Living Color.
