KMAC Exhibition Opening: White Glove Test: Louisville Punk Flyers 1978-1994
This exhibition documents Louisville's vibrant and diverse music scene from 1978 to 1994, offering an insider's view of one seminal community's rise from bold beginnings to eminent international status. Clipped, collaged, meticulously hand-painted and lettered, or designed using early versions of desktop publishing software, these photocopied flyers were outsider broadcasts stuck to phone poles and storefronts; a makeshift gallery installed with staple guns and wheat paste. White Glove Test is a rich visual history of an ephemeral and overlooked art form: the DIY concert poster. Beautiful, funny, and profane, the more than 500 collected flyers vividly represent the golden age of this fugitive street art, revealing a neglected facet of punk's expressive force. The exhibition and accompanying publication illuminates a vital style of pre-Internet social media appealing to any fan of independent music in Louisville and beyond.

    Othello at the Playhouse
Don't miss UofL's performance of Othello at the The Playhouse. Othello is one of playwright William Shakespeare’s most recognized dramas, but the upcoming production at the University of Louisville will feature a cultural twist on the tragedy of the Moor of Venice. “This play has been produced for more than 400 years and these themes of power, greed, racism and the manipulation behind it are just as prevalent today,” Hill said. “What we’re trying to do is look at it from a slightly different lens…What would it look like if Othello’s army was representative of the diversity of America’s army today, with diverse cultures in higher ranks like general?”
