National Wheelchair Basketball Association Championship The National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) is comprised of over 200 basketball teams across twenty-two conferences and seven divisions. The NWBA was founded in 1948, and today consists of men's, women's, intercollegiate, and youth teams throughout the United States of America and Canada. National Poetry Month Poetry Reading Carmichael's welcomes Louisville poets Lynnell Edwards, Jeffrey Skinner, Frederick Smock and Jerriod Avant for a poetry reading in celebration of National Poetry Month and the publication of the biannual "A Narrow Fellow" poetry anthology. Included in the anthology are never-before published poems by the poets. The name of the journal comes from one of Emily Dickinson's best-read poems about "a narrow fellow in the grass." You won't want to miss this very special event. Festival of the Dogwood Audubon Park, one of Louisville’s oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods will be celebrating the Festival of the Dogwood April 19 to 21, 2013. After dark, residents will spotlight blooming dogwood trees. Drive through the park and enjoy the sensation of viewing the beauty of several different varieties of dogwood. On Sunday there will be a community concert featuring the River City Concert Band at 3:00 p.m. at Audubon Baptist Church, 1046 Hess Lane. April 19-21 3rd Annual Harrods Creek Paddle The 3rd Annual Harrods Creek Paddle is a celebration of Earth Day benefiting Kentucky Waterways Alliance. The paddle will begin at River City Canoe & Kayak starting at noon and ending at 4 pm. Interpretive stations, designed to educate paddlers about the history and current state of Harrods Creek, will be provided by local partner organizations throughout the paddle. Upon return from the paddle, we invite participants to join us for a dinner reception directly next door at Cunningham’s Creekside from 4-6. April 21, 12p.m. http://kwalliance.org/harrods-creek/ $30, $20 for children under 18. The Zombie Run On April 21st, a biochemical leak is going to force Louisville into a apocalyptic zombie outbreak. At the starting line, you'll come across a flipped tanker, the source of the toxic compound. After the first kilometer, you'll enter into a military-controlled apocalypse zone. Beware, this is where your dash from zombies will begin. Around kilometer 3, you'll make it to a vaccination hydration center. The vaccine will fail, and you'll have to continue to sprint from zombies. The last 2 kilometers are a free-for-all, as you charge towards freedom. Zombies are everywhere. Helicopters circle overhead and military personnel distribute face masks for safety during your final steps. Runners have the option of wearing a custom, latex free “life-balloon”. Our brain hungry zombies will try to pop your balloon and take your life before your reach the finish line. But if you’re not fast, don’t worry! Our course is designed like a zombie movie set, so if you don’t wear your balloon or survive the race, you’ll still have a spooky run. Dead or alive, all runners get to complete the entire course and attend the Quarantine Party.
