April 12 Little Colonel Players: 'An American Daughter' Lyssa Dent Hughes is the privileged, well-educated daughter of a well-known Republican Senator and a fifth generation daughter of Ulysses S. Grant. She is the wife of a professor, a mother and a prominent health expert who is nominated for the Surgeon General. When the media discovers that she once failed to respond to jury duty, her career and personal life are threatened as that one simple error snowballs. This play makes a distinct and often amusing attempt to expose the soft underbelly of American political life, its media awareness and its subsequent confusion of public opinion polls and democracy.
