On January 12, 2010, the deadliest earthquake ever recorded in the Western Hemisphere struck Haiti. Rescuers and aid workers rushed to save lives as the world pledged more than $15.3 billion for relief and reconstruction. Yet nearly three years later, Haiti is still in crisis. Katz, the only full-time U.S. journalist stationed in Haiti at the time, was there to witness the destruction and its aftermath.

A co-founder and the editor-in-chief of "Forklift, Ohio: A Journal of Poetry, Cooking & Light Industrial Safety," he lives in Cincinnati where he teaches at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and plays in the band Travel. Patrick Wensink is the bestselling author of "Broken Piano for President" and three other books. His essays have appeared in the New York Times, Huffington Post and others.
