Psychedelic funk pioneer and music legend Bernie Worrell has launched a new mothership. The Bernie Worrell Orchestra, the multi-piece ensemble he co-founded with drummer/bandleader Evan Taylor in 2011, has been performing across the country playing new music that mines "late-1960s/early 1970s psychedelic rock and R&B… the foundation of funk," according Taylor. The BWO is a continuation of Worrell's solo work with a set list that is derived mainly from Worrell's nine solo albums, while still featuring copious new material including the award-winning single, "Get Your Hands Off," which is from their debut album, BWO Is Landing. MusicRadar.com calls the new music "a winning set that features Worrell's easily identifiable clavinet and MiniMoog wizardry backed by rollicking bass grooves, vibrant percussion and rousing horns." The Bernie Worrell Orchestra is Bernie Worrell (keyboards), Andrew Kimball (guitar), Kyle Cadena (guitar), Scott Hogan (bass), Glen Fittin (percussion), and Evan Taylor (drums/bandleader), with Kory Stanbury (saxophone), Shlomi Cohen (alto sax), Ofer Assaf (tenor sax), Justin Mullens (trumpet) selectively appearing for some performances.
