The Frankfort Avenue corridor is home to more than 80 woman-owned businesses and service providers, many of whom have been operating on The Avenue for more than 20 years. To celebrate the accomplishments of these women, and ALL women, the Frankfort Avenue Business Association (FABA) is hosting a series of events culminating on International Women’s Day – Friday, March 8th, 2013. International Women’s Day is held each year on March 8th to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace.
Friday, March 8th will include special offers and discounts for women at participating retailers along the Avenue. Along with the following free activities:
2:00pm - Readings from Independent Theatre Company, Looking for Lilith, from their world premiere of Alice in Black and White at A Reader’s Corner Bookstore, 2044 Frankfort Avenue
3:00pm - Second screening of Iron Jawed Angels at 1741: A Collaboratory for Social Innovation, 1741 Frankfort Avenue
5:30pm-7:30pm - “Women Make the Avenue Work” Reception and USPS Stamp Unveiling at Eyedia, 1631 Mellwood Avenue
The public is invited to attend a reception and enjoy networking with women business owners, live music from Brigid Kaelin, and refreshments from Apocalypse Brewery, Blue Dog Bakery, Dark Star Tavern, Crave Catering, and more. The U.S. Postal Service will also unveil and dedicate Global Forever®, a new international rate stamp. This stamp features a rendering of Earth composed of images created from satellite data and redesigned with 3D computer technology. The shape of the stamp is round, and the text, which surrounds the image of Earth, includes the words “Global Forever.”
