Enjoy an on-going program of classic cinema, documentary, avant-garde and Hollywood spectacle during Cinematic Remembrance: Memory and the Movies.
This selection of films, co-curated by Willie Doherty and Ryan Daly, explores the nature memory and its representation in cinema. Amnesia, lost history, multiple histories, and false memories are a few of themes explored throughout the series. For mature audiences only.
This Special Free First Friday screening will be coupled with a lecture by Metro Councilman Tom Owen on the history of the Irish in Louisville, beginning at 6:00.
Adapted from the short story "The Dead" by James Joyce and nominated for an Academy Award for Writing Adapted Screenplay, The Dead takes place in Dublin in 1904 at an Epiphany party held by two elderly sisters. The story focuses attention on the academic Gabriel Conroy (Donal McCann) and his discovery of his wife Gretta's (Anjelica Huston) memory of a deceased lover.
