William Croghan, the builder of Locust Grove, was a surveyor and a veteran of the Continental Army. Born in Dublin in 1752, he died and was buried at Locust Grove in 1822. His remains, along with those of his wife Lucy Clark Croghan, were later re-interred at Cave Hill Cemetery.
