Join StageOne Family Theatre's Musical World Premiere of Wiley and the Hairy Man at The Kentucky Center’s Bomhard Theater, October 13 & 20 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The play is a folktale rooted in African folklore set in the swamp lands of Alabama. “Outwit the Hairy Man three times and he won’t scare you ever again,” says Mammy. Trembling, Wiley sets out for the woods prepared to confront the Hairy Man; he looks fear in the face and overcomes it. The adventures are presented in lyric, poetry, music and mime.

This is the 40th anniversary of the play and the first time it has ever appeared with music. The internationally and nationally known playwright, Suzan Zeder, was approached by StageOne to revisit the play and give it new life. Zeder always envisioned Wiley and the Hairy Man with music but insisted she collaborate with a local composer who would bring the voice of the region to the piece. StageOne was thrilled to partner with world renowned jazz pianist, and Louisville’s own, Harry Pickens. The World Premiere of Wiley and the Hairy Man is part of StageOne Family Theatre New Play Development Series.
