A Sultry Swelter Indeed! The Mavens of Mischief are bringing you our hottest vintage blues, burlesque, and jazz this August 15! Let local classic burlesque performers organized by Mrs. Marvelously Marvis Lee (of the Mavens of Mischief) entertain you with iconic routines and classical inspired teases celebrating the roots of American burlesque and the expressive nature of the female form. The show starts at 9:45pm on Wednesday July 15, 2012 at Meat (1076 East Washington Street, Louisville, KY). The Sultry Swealter features dancing by Legs Over Easy joining us all the way from ChiTown. If this wasn’t enough to spark your interest and boil your top, the show also includes sizzling performances by local talent Monet Magnolia, Polina Burlesco, D’arcy Decadence, Marvis lee Mae, Foxy Frejiah 9, and Babs Fatale!

Burlesque, or the art of mixing comedy, parody, and sensuality, celebrates the beauty of the feminine form, and has done so throughout the 20th century in spite of repeated efforts to remove such expression from public view. Strip and tease routines, staples of classic burlesque history are an active part of the Mavens of Mischief repertoire. These routines are done with classiness, attention to detail, exciting musicality, playful humor, extreme costuming and character development, and with music+moves strongly tied to 1890’s-1950’s jazz roots. In researching, experiencing, and embodying the ‘burlesque’ side of jazz the Mavens affirm the beauty inherent in the human body and offer audiences new, different, and alternative visions of what it means to be beautiful, playful, sexual, and intelligent.

Best of all, Mavens do it covered in feathers, sensuous in silk, gilded in glitter and wearing little but a large smile. Although, if you just came for the tassels: you’re going to leave a very, very, satisfied- perhaps also wearing a smile! Since the girls are doing some uncovering, they thought it would be ok to drop your cover too- no cover charge, libations encouraged-limited seating so shimmy down early!
