The Theology Department welcomes Dr. Pamela Eisenbaum, Professor of Biblical Studies and Christian Origins at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado as this year's Vernon Robertson lecturer. Dr. Eisenbaum is one of four Jewish New Testament scholars teaching in Christian theological schools.
On Wednesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. in Hilary's Dr. Eisenbaum will deliver a lecture entitled, "Saving the Gentiles: The Mission and Message of the Apostle Paul." Her lecture will attempt to reorient our reading of the apostle from within a first century Jewish context. The result is not only greater historical accuracy, but the presentation of a man who speaks to the modern issues raised by inter-religious dialogue. This topic is related to her most recent book, Paul Was Not a Christian: The Original Message of a Misunderstood Apostle.
In addition to her lecture on Wednesday evening, Dr. Eisenbaum will make a presentation on Thursday, October 24 at 11 a.m. focusing on her current research on the development of the Jewish and Christian canons.
