LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two esteemed UofL theatre faculty members will take on the roles of Civil War spies in their final performance at the university.
Lundeana Thomas, theatre professor and director of the African American Theatre program, and Rinda Frye, associate professor and department chair of theatre, will present Carolyn Gage’s “Mason-Dixon” as their swan song performance.
“Mason-Dixon” will take place at 8 p.m., March 27-29 at the Thrust Theatre, 2314 S. Floyd St. UofL theatre alumna Karen Edwards-Hunter will direct the show and alumna Jessi Eichberger will create the costumes.
Based on the true story of Elizabeth Van Lew and Mary Bowser, the play explores the relationship of the two Union spies, one black, one white: one former slave and one former slaveowner. Friends as children, they meet again after 30 years. What will they say to each other?
This will be the final performance at UofL for both Thomas and Frye as they plan to retire later this year. The play also serves as a fundraiser for a cultural exchange trip to Singapore for theatre students this spring.
Tickets for “Mason-Dixon” are $10. For tickets and information, call 502-852-8443 or visit http://louisville.edu/theatrearts/aatp.
