Invited Artist: Rhonda Thistlethwaite, Rug Hooker
In the 1850’s, rug hooking was thought of as a ‘country’ craft, something poorer women would do to make rugs that covered cold, unheated floors. Most hooked rugs were made from reused burlap grain sacks, old fabric of any kind, mostly hand-me-down clothes, and a simple metal hook. Many of these humble rugs have survived the years to become treasured folk art pieces. Rhonda Thistlethwaite will demonstrate the art of rug hooking throughout the day; learn how this simple technique can be used today to make treasured heirlooms for tomorrow. 10am - 12pm and 1-4pm *Ideal for Home Educators. Program free with HP admission.
