Thomas Edison House will kick-off the Derby season and celebrate North America's largest fireworks show at its annual Thunder BBQ on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Guests will enjoy delicious a delicious BBQ meal, prepared by Frankfort Avenue Beer Depot, in the courtyard garden of the museum at 729-731 East Washington Street in historic Butchertown.
Indoor restroom facilities are available; Waterfront Park is only a short walk from the museum and guests are welcome to come and go throughout the event. Blankets and lawn chairs are permitted. Doors open at 3 p.m. for the air show; BBQ dinner will be served at 5 p.m .
Tickets are $50 per person; Youth (ages 6-17) tickets are $25 per person. Reservations are required.
Limited reserved parking is available for $10 per car. Cash, check, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa are accepted. Proceeds from this event will benefit Thomas Edison House, a museum in historic Butchertown owned and operated by the Historic Homes Foundation. Placed in 1974 on the National Register of Historic Places, Thomas Edison boarded here just after the Civil War while working as a telegraph operator for Louisville’s Western Union. The museum recalls Edison’s early years as a telegrapher and his later years as a prolific inventor.
