The Third Thursday Hoedown in Germantown returns June 19, graced by the man who started it all himself, who, along with his old time band Fiddle Pie, swings by Louisville on their summer Biscuit Country Tour. A Nashville native, caller T-Claw visited Louisville often, living here for a spell, calling square dances and eventually creating the Louisville Old Time Squares Association, which continues to host the monthly hoedowns. T-Claw calls square dances all over the country with an upbeat style that is just as appealing to seasoned dancers (geeks) as it is to beginners. He focuses on “accessible, but fun, traditional style southern squares.”
This monthly social event is open to all ages and all levels of experience. All dances are taught, and no one is required to dance. A partner can be easily found on the dance floor and there is no dress code, though one’s twirliest skirt is recommended. There will also be an open, old-time jam in the bar with local banjo player Harry Bickel.
Doors open at 7, with a beginner’s square dance workshop at 7:30, and dancing will take place from 8-10:30, featuring predominantly simple and traditional southern figures.
Guests may dance as many or as few as they like, and anyone can dance with anyone regardless of gender.
