The Third Thursday Hoedown in Germantown returns July 17, celebrating its second birthday at its comfy home at Danny Mac’s, featuring local caller Alex Udis to the old-time tunes of semi-local band Hen Cackle. For this month’s dance, the Louisville Old Time Squares Association is partnering with Louisville Community Farm Alliance, who will be present at the dance to chat about promoting sound agriculture policy for the people of Kentucky, and doing a cakewalk.
This monthly social event is open to all ages and all levels of experience. All dances are taught, and no one is required to dance. A partner is easily found on the dance floor and pizza and cheap beer are easily found at the bar. There is no dress code; though one’s twirliest skirt is recommended. There will also be an open, old-time jam in the bar with local banjo player Harry Bickel.
Doors open at 7 with a beginner’s square dance workshop at 7:30, and dancing will take place from 8-10:30, featuring predominantly simple and traditional southern figures.
Guests may dance as many or as few as they like, and anyone can dance with anyone regardless of gender.
Community Farm Alliance is a grassroots membership organization with over 1,000 members in 60 Kentucky counties. CFA's mission is to organize and encourage cooperation among farmers, rural, and urban citizens, through leadership development and grassroots democratic processes, to ensure an essential, prosperous place for family-scale agriculture in our economies and communities.
