Having already performed 9 plays by Kentucky playwrights in its inaugural season, The Bard's Town Theatre is proud to announce its 10th play by a Kentucky playwright: STRIKE ZONE, by Liz Fentress. The production is directed by Actors Theatre of Louisville's Steven Rahe, and features Jeni De Lancey, Joshua Loren, Walt...er May, and Talleri McRae.
STRIKE ZONE takes place in the summer in a small Wisconsin town, and Beth Zeeman, with her new husband and new job, thinks she’s finally found her place in the world. But when a cop confirms troubling rumors, Beth is faced with the challenge of a lifetime: define who she really is, and what she really stands for.
“It’s a play about human relationships—what we tolerate in other people, and what we don’t tolerate," says playwright Liz Fentress. "It’s about the bond we all want with our most significant other.”
Bard's Town Theatre Executive Director Doug Schutte adds, "For this second-to-last show of the 2011 season, we really hit the jackpot. To be able to couple such an acclaimed playwright as Liz Fentress with highly-respected director Steven Rahe...we couldn't be much happier. Add to that the team of designers and fabulous cast, and we know we've got a winner."
Liz Fentress is a playwright, director, and actor. In Louisville, she acts for Stage One, and is a teaching artist for Actors Theatre of Louisville’s New Voices program. Her play The Honey Harvest won the North American Actors Association annual Playwriting Competition and was staged in London's West End. KET's production of Liz's Circus Story, which Liz wrote and performs, won the National Educational Television Association award for Best Dramatic Narrative. Liz worked at Horse Cave Theatre for thirteen seasons as a director and actor, and also served on the theatre’s management team. Most recently, she served as co-editor of World Premieres from Horse Cave Theatre: Plays by Kentucky Writers, published by MotesBooks.
Steven Rahe earned his MFA in directing from City University of New York, where he lived for ten years directing, producing and teaching. New York projects include world premieres for Soho Rep and the Cherry Lane Alternative. Locally, Steven has directed for Squallis Puppeteers, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Stage One and Music Theatre Louisville. He is the director of education at Actors Theatre, and is a member of the Theatre Alliance of Louisville and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. Upcoming projects include Pandora Production’s New Play Project at the Bard’s Town and Lyle the Crocodile for Stage One.
As with all Bard's Town Theatre shows, full bar service will be available during the show, and audience members can dine at The Bard's Town restaurant at a discount with a ticket stub.
