Spring Awakening
presented by Kids Acting Against Cancer
Winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening sets Frank Wedekind's original 1891 expressionist play to a moving score of indie, folk, punk-rock and alternative music by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater.
In 19th century Germany, the beautiful young Wendla explores her body and asks her mother where babies come from. Elsewhere, the brilliant and fearless young Melchior attempts to educate his friend Moritz -- a boy so traumatized by puberty he can’t concentrate on anything. One afternoon in the woods, Wendla and Melchior discover within themselves a desire unlike anything they’ve ever felt. Through the struggles of Melchior, Wendla, Moritz, and the rest of the students, Spring Awakening explores the confusion and desperation that ensue when the onrushing tide of hormones meets the ignorance of children in a repressed society. Spring Awakening celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, poignancy, and passion that you will never forget.
100% of the profits from Kids Acting Against Cancer's Spring Awakening will be donated to help provide the oncology ward of Kosair Children's Hospital with both medical equipment and amenities to help the children feel more comfortable as they undergo inpatient treatment.
