The Frankfort Avenue corridor is home to more than 90 woman-owned businesses and service providers. To celebrate the accomplishments of these women, and ALL women, the Frankfort Avenue Business Association (FABA) will honor International Women’s Day with two events that are free and open to the public.
On Saturday, March 8th - International Women’s Day – the public is invited to “Shop the Majority” and enjoy an all-day event including special offers and discounts for women at participating retailers along the Avenue. Purple balloons will designate the businesses that have special offers that day.
- Frankfort Avenue’s Independent Theatre Company, Looking for Lilith, will offer 2-for-1 admission ($18) to the 2:00pm matinee performance of Luz, an immigrant’s epic surreal journey of survival and hope, which is showing at the Henry Clay, 604 S. 3rd Street. To get the discount offer, attendees must pick up a coupon/postcard at Lexie’s Trading Post and show it at the box office upon arrival at the show.
- Jacqueline Saltsman Massage Therapy, 103 Crescent Avenue, is offering 20% off ALL massage services for women during the week of March 2nd-8th. Appointments can be scheduled online at jacquelinesaltsman.com.
- Just Creations, 2722 Frankfort Avenue, will kick-off a month-long program to support women artisans in Guatemala and expand the educational opportunities for their children. All are invited to send a message to women in Guatemala, and donations will be accepted throughout the month of March to support the school at UPAVIM, a Fair Trade cooperative in Guatemala City.
- Lexie’s Trading Post, 2224 Frankfort Avenue, will give all women who spend $25 or more a FREE bar of Lexie’s of Louisville Soap.
- The Tangerine Closet, 2359 Frankfort Avenue, will offer 10% off to all women shoppers and 20% off to all women business owners.
- Crescent Hill Trading Co., 2720 Frankfort Avenue, will offer a 10% discount off all jewelry and serve refreshments.
- Davidson Design, 2528 Frankfort Avenue, will deeply discount selected items throughout the store for one day only!
- Guestroom Records, 1806 Frankfort Avenue, will offer a 10% discount on all female artists and collect donations for the Girls Rock Camp Alliance http://girlsrockcampalliance.org/about-2/about/
- Four Sisters, 2246 Frankfort Avenue, will offer a 10% discount to all women and give out handmade tissue flowers.
- BAZ and BEA Boutique, located in the Mellwood Art Center, will offer store-wide discounts of $10 off of $50 or $25 off of $100 minimum purchases and between 2pm-6pm customers can meet with a personal stylist and enter to win hourly giveaways.
- A Reader’s Corner Bookstore, 2044 Frankfort Avenue, will offer all women a 20% discount and serve refreshments.
- Hair by Helen Garvey, 1841 Brownsboro Road, will offer free brow waxing from 11am-1pm.
- Ta Dah Unique Boutique, 2033 Frankfort Avenue, will offer a 15% discount on all purchases and serve mimosas and desserts. Local designer Craig Johnson will also be demonstrating some of his jewelry techniques.
- The Urban Farmhouse Market, 2830 Frankfort Avenue, will offer a 10% discount on all purchases, excluding sale items and custom orders.
- Margaret’s Consignment, 2700 Frankfort Avenue, will offer a 10% discount to anyone who mentions “International Women’s Day” at checkout.
- Carmichael’s Bookstore, 2720 Frankfort Avenue, will give away an advance readers copy of a forthcoming book (grab bag style) to every woman who makes a purchase!
International Women’s Day is held each year on March 8th to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations, and the theme for 2014 is “Inspiring Change”.
