The Southeastern Indiana Recycling District (SEIRD) invites local residents within their seven-county district to join them in celebrating America Recycles Day on Wed., Nov. 14, 2012. SEIRD services Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, and Switzerland Counties.
America Recycles Day is a national program of Keep America Beautiful, and is the only recognized day and community-driven awareness event dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. Since 1997, Nov. 15 has been dedicated to “educate and motivate” the public to recycle that day and every day. SEIRD will observe the event on Wed., Nov. 14 when their six recycling centers are open to the public.
“America Recycles Day is devoted to inform and educate the public about recycling,” said Kendal Miller, SEIRD public outreach coordinator. “But we like to stress that everyday should be thought of as ‘recycling day.’”
Miller emphasizes the benefits of recycling including reducing the amount of usable materials going into landfills, protecting our natural resources, and saving both energy and money. SEIRD recycling centers accept paper, aluminum cans, metal, cardboard, paper, #1 and #2 plastics, electronics, tires, oil, and more—all of which are shipped to suppliers who utilize them for post-consumer products.
Post-consumer products—or items made out of recycled materials—are becoming more and more common as companies are stepping up to the plate to become more “green” and socially responsible.
While supplies last, a small gift will be given to each family that brings their recyclables to a SEIRD recycling center on Nov. 14 during normal business hours. There is a limit of one per family. Recycling center hours and locations can be found on their website at www.seird.org.
