George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, a funk, soul and rock music collective dating back more than 30 years, will headline the Kentucky Derby Festival's RhythmFest concert on Tuesday, May 1, at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront. The group has existed under various names since the 1960s and has been known for top-notch musicianship, politically charged lyrics, outlandish concept albums and memorable live performances. The concert will begin at 9 p.m.; admission is a 2012 Pegasus Pin.
In 1997, George Clinton and 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the largest band yet inducted. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Parliament-Funkadelic #56 on their list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time." P-Funk's influence of modern popular music is significant, with samples of their songs still being heard today in the hip-hop genre.
