The Clifton Center will host a concert by the outstanding old-time duo from Michigan Red Tail Ring on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:30pm. Louisville's own Maiden Radio will open the show. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at cliftoncenter.org, at Carmichael's Bookstore, 2720 Frankfort Avenue, or at the Clifton Center box office the day of the show.
Red Tail Ring is the musical brainchild of two old-time-minded Michiganders - Michael Beauchamp and Laurel Premo. The collaboration blends the loving attention of revivalist fervor with the playful creativity of starting from scratch. Whether rendering a traditional tune or one of their many original compositions, the duo infuses each song with musical imagination, haunting harmonies and instrumental artistry on fiddle, banjo, mandolin, jawharp, and plain-old foot stomping. "We love pushing the boundaries of what a traditional song can be," says Beauchamp. "It informs how we write our original songs. There's a real energy exchange between the old and the new."
The members of Maiden Radio - Joan Shelley, Cheyenne Mize, and Julia Purcell - make plenty of waves on their own as solo artists, but fans of their outstanding trio know what happens when the three get together: Pure magic. They're an old-time trio, favoring traditional songs from their home state, re-arranged for 3-part harmony. While showing a clear reverence and love for the great singers of the past, their music is timeless and beautiful, and the original compositions played at their shows are indistinguishable from the tunes people have been listening to for ages and ages.
