If you’ve ever stumbled across a Bollywood movie, a crazed kind of cinema favored in India, the music might have caught your ear but not quite held on. There’s something familiar about the rhythms of bhangra, but it remains a long walk from Western music.
Now add a New Orleans brass band groove and suddenly things get interesting. Things, in fact, turn into a massive dance party. You can thank Red Baraat for inventing what the band calls dhol ’n brass music, which rose up in Brooklyn four years ago and has been exhausting audiences since. Led by Sunny Jain, who plays a North Indian drum called a dhol, the band is most noted for its live show.
See it Thursday at the Kentucky Center’s Bomhard Theater at 8 p.m. Tickets are available on online at the Kentucky Center's website.
