Friends, new and old, will come together on March 3rd for the sixth annual Raisin’ the Rent party. Reminiscent of the days friends hosted parties to help neighbors raise money for rent, St. John Center helps men move toward housing each day.
Constructed in the 1920’s when Harlem’s Rent Parties became famous, the historic Olmsted on Frankfort Avenue is this year’s venue again for Raisin’ the Rent. The party benefits St. John Center for Homeless Men.
Rent party patrons will enjoy music from Louisville’s own The Remedy, and a live magic & illusions show by Patrick and Janice Miller. Hors d’oeuvres and a light dinner will be served by Masterson’s Catering. The party will also include dancing, silent and live auctions with Steve Hale serving as auctioneer, and Vicki Rogers from Lite 106.9 will emcee the evening. A cash bar will also be available.
While event-planners predict a great time for party-goers, Carrie King, Event Chair, said “Making Magic Together is more then just the theme of this years event! It's the reality of what takes place at the St John Center. The men are given a second chance, an opportunity to get their life back on track. To me, this is Magical and I am proud to be part of it.”
“Raisin’ the Rent is the single largest fundraiser of the year for St. John Center,” said Jennifer Young, the agency’s director of marketing and communications. “It supplies more than 10 percent of our budget and is critical to our mission of providing hope and in some cases, housing, to homeless men.”
