Displays of quilts by men, baby quilts, the Grandmother’s Flower Garden pattern, and a vendors market are features of the 10th Berea Quilt Extravaganza August 1 and 2 at the Community School, 1 Pirate Way, in Berea. Challenge displays include Jabez Retreat quilts, featuring specific material and “Quiltography”, a display of quilt blocks inspired by photographs, from members of the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society.
Activities include a talk on the history of feed sacks as material, a guided walking tour of significant quilts in the show, and demonstrations of hand-quilting, quilt binding, paper piecing, tee-shirt quilts, and embellishment techniques. A hands-on needle felting class takes place on Saturday, August 2, with all materials provided for a $10 fee.
“Quilts with a Kick”, an exhibit of art quilts by the Kentucky Art Quilters, will be displayed July 25 through August 21 at the Berea Arts Council gallery located at 139 N. Broadway. Gallery hours are 10am-4pm Monday through Saturday. The theme for the show is “Mother Earth.”
Plenty of free parking is available at the school and throughout the town. There is also a free shuttle service available. Quilt Extravaganza tickets are $3 in advance and $5 on the day of the show. Children under the age of 12 are free. For more information, call 859-985-9317 or visit www.bereaARTScouncil.org.
