Dr. Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson’s new book Promises Kept: Raising Black Boys to Succeed in School and Life is an unprecedented guide to helping black boys, regardless of socio-economic background, achieve success at every stage of their lives – at home, at school, and in the world. Filled with innovative research, practical strategies, and the voices of parents and children who are grappling with these issues firsthand, Promises Kept challenges assumptions and seeks to inspire parents to make sure their child isn’t lost in the gap.
Joe Brewster, M.D., and Michèle Stephenson are the directors of the award-winning documentary American Promise. This intimate documentary follows the 12-year journey of two African-American families pursuing the promise of opportunity through the education of their sons.
