Presence & Place
Thoughts of existence within a specific time and location lead us to contemplate our presence – physically and spiritually – in the moment. Yet beyond where we have our feet planted at any given instant, where do we find ourselves in relationship to other people, other places? This exhibition includes work by three local artists, each exploring the connection of presence and place. In Russel Hulsey’s portraits from the series, Verses III, the viewer is connected to the insightful, introspective gazes of Wendell Berry, Thomas Merton and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Discover the delicate, meditative spirit emerging from Sunny Ra’s Nightscape paintings, and the enigmatic social consciousness of Victor Sweatt’s urban landscapes.
Please take a quiet moment to explore the diverse array of artworks presented here, today. Experience their beauty, connect with their compassion, and welcome your personal response. Choose to be present in this moment, in this city, in this majestic, tranquil space. What you see (and feel) may surprise you!
