Though Juneteenth (a portmanteau of June and 19th) originated in Texas in 1865, it’s since spread across the country as a day, week or sometimes even a month to celebrate African American freedom, education and achievement. To help signify the importance of this anniversary, the Frazier History Museum is hosting a Pre-Juneteenth Celebration during our June Second Saturday Family Day. Museum guests can enjoy interactive performances, music, Juneteenth-inspired crafts, an authentic African dance performance from the Imani Dance & Drum Company and energetic storytelling from our guest of honor, Ashley Bryan, a nationally-renowned author and performer.
