Overshot Weaving Workshop
Overshot is a magical structure. The first time you weave it you can hardly believe the cloth that grows on your loom. Traditionally used to weave bed coverings, overshot has many beautiful applications in today's world, from useful household textiles to breathtaking works of art. This versatile weave is subject to endless variations.
You will be weaving with a cotton warp and a wool weft. Demonstrations will cover each part of the warping and weaving process to make sure that it is easy and comfortable. Each participant will weave a sample and there will be enough warp left to weave a small table runner.
Friday afternoon will include a visit to the Kentucky Historical Society where Julie Kemper, the Curator, will show us some of their collection of overshot coverlets, including the coverlet which is in the Handweavers's Pattern Book by Margarite Davidson.
