Two duos, chosen near to Valentine's Day to feature married couples who make beautiful music together, come to the Kentucky Homefront Front Porch to open our Season. The Radio Show opens with Greg and Kriss. The harmony of their voices and the vision of their songs bring an audience together, making kinfolk of strangers. Greg and Kriss have been performing as an acoustic duo for 9 years.
Originally based in Indianapolis, the duo now makes their home in Madison, along the Ohio River in southern Indiana. Both have a long, rich history of musical performance and collaboration with many midwestern bands over the years, including The Spud Puppies, Diamonds and Rust, Jam Sammich and Earthbones. The duo have two CD releases - "Bare Bones" and "Virginia.”
Acoustic singer/songwriters, they showcase introspective songs about life, love, family and nostalgia. Their music is most often compared to artists such as Cowboy Junkies, Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, Neil Young, and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.
Sharing the first hour, Small Potatoes, the Chicago-based folk duo of Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso, will do a regular set. After intermission they will take the stage for a special longer concert. Small Potatoes say it has taken them years of careful indecision to develop a repertoire they describe as "Celtic to Cowboy." Superb musicianship and showmanship, award-winning songwriting, and a strong sense of tradition has made them, as Dirty Linen Magazine once said, "one of the most polished, inventive, and entertaining shows on the circuit."
Nineteen years ago, Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso, the Chicago-area duo known as Small decided to hit the road. “In one year, we quit our jobs, bought a house, bought a car, and became full-folk singers--not exactly the greatest combination, financially speaking, or what most people would call sound business model. We didn’t throw darts at a map, but we might as well have.” They have made repeat appearances at major folk festivals, including the Kerrville Folk Festival, the Walnut Valley Festival, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
“These folks are wonderful; fun, energetic, and great musicians.
They're two of my favorite performers.”
