Why: Nearly 5,000 people in the Kentuckiana area and more than 2 million people worldwide are known to have Multiple Sclerosis and experts believe 5 times that amount may have MS without knowing it due to difficulty in diagnosing the disease. The Mission of the National MS Society is to promote awareness and education of MS and to fund research to end the disease. This is a unique opportunity to reach people who may not know about MS and its devastating impact on those battling the disease. Registration forms for the Chapter’s BIKE MS and WALK MS events will be available at the event.
About the National Multiple Sclerosis Society:
MS stops people from moving. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) exists to make sure it doesn’t. The NMSS addresses the challenges of each person affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, collaborating with MS and other health organizations around the world, and providing programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move forward with their lives. In 2010 alone, through its national office and 50-state network of chapters, the Society devoted $159 million to programs and services that assisted more than one million people. To move us closer to a world free of MS, in 2010 the NMSS also donated an additional $37 million to support 325 new and ongoing research projects around the world and hopes to fund a total of $250 million in MS research from 2011-2015. The NMSS is dedicated to achieving a world free of MS. Join the movement at www.nationalmssociety.org/kyw
